Motor Freight from EU to Russia over 9 Months in 2015

Over 9 months in 2015 goods transported by road from EU to Russia decreased by 34.2%, which is 7,372 thousand tons of goods less than in the similar period of the previous year*.

The reduction of motor freight from EU to Russia occurred in almost all product groups and in all EU countries. The major decrease of import freight forwarding took place from the following countries:

  • Poland (-960 thousand tons or -47.6%)
  • Lithuania (-454 thousand tons or -48.3%)
  • Germany (-446 thousand tons or -20.9%)
  • Finland (-367 тыс. т; -28.7%)
  • The Netherlands (-250 thousand tons or -33.6%)
  • Italy (-203 thousand tons or -30.5%)
  • Belgium (-176 thousand tons or -42.9%)
  • Spain (-169 thousand tons or - 63.5%)

However, in the 3rd quarter of 2015 as compared to the 2nd quarter of the same year cargo traffic from EU to Russia increased insignificantly.

At the same time, over 9 months in 2015 exported goods from Russia to EU increased by 17.9%, which is 7,080 thousand tons more than in the similar period of the previous year.

The reduction of mineral fuel and oils, iron and steel, non-organic chemicals exported from Russia to EU made up for the rise in export of wood and rubber.

The major increase of export freight forwarding took place to the following countries:

  • the Netherlands (+1,072 thousand tons or +807.3%) due to export of metalware, wood and oil products;
  • Sweden (+197 thousand tons or +139.7%) due to large export of oil in certain months of the year;
  • Poland (+186 thousand tons or +28.5%) due to export of oil and wood products, as well as manufactured goods.

Export prospects for goods transported by road to the Baltic countries remain positive.

However, the major reduction of export occurred to Hungary (-352 thousand tons or -80.7%), Belgium (-186 thousand tons or -68.7%), Germany (-43 thousand tons or -5%), France (-30 thousand tons or -22.8%).
